Iconic Actor Gene Hackman, Spouse, and Dog Discovered Deceased in Residence

Two-time Oscar winner Gene Hackman, 95, and his wife Betsy Arakawa, 63, have been found dead at their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico, along with their dog. Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza confirmed the discovery, stating that the case is under active investigation, though foul play is not suspected. Mendoza did not disclose the cause or time of death, as the investigation is ongoing and awaiting a search warrant. Hackman, born in 1930, is renowned for over 100 film roles, winning Oscars for “The French Connection” and “Unforgiven.”

Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza confirmed the deaths, stating that the situation is currently under investigation.

“We can confirm that both Gene Hackman and his wife were found deceased Wednesday afternoon at their home on Sunset Trail.”

“This is an ongoing investigation – however, we do not believe foul play was involved at this time,” Mr. Mendoza stated, as reported by BBC.

Mr. Mendoza did not provide details regarding the cause or time of death.

“All I can share is that we’re in the midst of a preliminary death investigation and are awaiting approval for a search warrant,” he added.

Born in 1930, Mr. Hackman portrayed over 100 characters throughout his career. He received two Oscars: best actor for his performance as Jimmy “Popeye” Doyle in The French Connection, and best supporting actor for his role as Little Bill Daggett in Unforgiven.
