New Delhi:

Sonakshi Sinha recently shared her thoughts on her marriage to Zaheer Iqbal, addressing the rumors and speculation that have surrounded their wedding.

The couple’s choice to tie the knot attracted significant public attention, particularly due to remarks made by her father, veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha, and the noticeable absence of her brothers, Luv and Kussh, at the ceremony. These elements raised questions about the Sinha family’s support for the relationship.

In a recent interview with Hauterrfly, Sonakshi tackled the concerns, noting that while her father was as supportive as possible, she opted not to discuss her brothers’ absence. She also emphasized that she never faced any pressure from Zaheer’s family regarding a conversion to Islam.

Sonakshi stated that religion was never a barrier for her and Zaheer. “Zaheer and I weren’t particularly focused on religion. We are two individuals who love one another and want to marry,” she explained. She continued, “He never imposed his religion on me, nor am I imposing mine on him. This wasn’t even a topic of discussion.”

The actress elaborated on their mutual respect for each other’s cultural backgrounds. “We recognize and honor each other’s traditions. He observes certain customs at home, while I have my own at mine. He takes part in my Diwali pooja, and I engage in his rituals. And that’s what truly matters,” she added.

Sonakshi also emphasized the importance of the Special Marriage Act in their marriage, asserting that it was the ideal solution for them. “Given the circumstances, the best way for us to wed was through the Special Marriage Act, allowing me as a Hindu woman to keep my religion while he, as a Muslim man, remains true to his faith. It’s straightforward. I was never asked, ‘Are you going to convert?’ We love each other, and we intend to marry.”

Regarding the online negativity and speculation, Sonakshi confessed that she and Zaheer decided to turn off their Instagram comments in the lead-up to their wedding to mitigate unnecessary pressure. “On my big day, mujhe yeh bakwas dekhni hi nahi hai (I didn’t want to be near this nonsense),” she remarked.

Sonakshi and Zaheer exchanged vows on June 23 of last year, after dating for nearly seven years before their wedding.
