During the UN Human Rights Council meeting, India sharply criticized Pakistan, labeling it a “failed state” dependent on international aid. India’s envoy, Kshitij Tyagi, condemned the Pakistani leadership for spreading military-driven falsehoods, particularly in response to claims of human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are integral parts of India, highlighting significant progress in these regions compared to Pakistan’s issues with governance and human rights violations. Tyagi urged Pakistan to focus on internal governance rather than anti-India rhetoric, asserting India’s commitment to democracy and dignity for its citizens.
New Delhi:
On Thursday, India delivered a strong condemnation of Pakistan during the seventh meeting of the 58th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), characterizing the nation as a “failed state” dependent on international aid for survival.
Kshitij Tyagi, India’s Permanent Mission to the UN in Geneva, criticized the Pakistani leadership for propagating falsehoods dictated by its military. His remarks were a direct response to the accusations of human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir made by Pakistani law minister Azam Nazeer Tarar.
“It is lamentable to witness Pakistan’s leaders and representatives persistently disseminating false narratives perpetuated by its military-terrorist complex. Pakistan is ridiculing the OIC by misusing it as its spokesperson. It is regrettable that this Council’s time is squandered by a failed state that thrives on chaos and depends on international aid. Its rhetoric is laden with hypocrisy, its actions demonstrate inhumanity, and its governance exemplifies incompetence. India remains dedicated to democracy, progress, and the dignity of its citizens—values from which Pakistan could greatly benefit,” Mr. Tyagi stated in Geneva.
The Indian envoy criticized Pakistan for exploiting international platforms to propagate anti-India sentiment while neglecting its own internal challenges.
Continuing his remarks, Mr. Tyagi reaffirmed that the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh are and will always be essential parts of India. He highlighted the remarkable development and stability achieved in these regions in recent years, contrasting sharply with Pakistan’s claims of disorder.
“The Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh will perpetually remain fundamental and inalienable parts of India. The unprecedented political, social, and economic advancements in J&K over the past few years speak volumes. These achievements reflect the citizens’ faith in the government’s commitment to restoring normalcy in a region marred by decades of terrorism sponsored by Pakistan. As a nation where human rights violations, minority persecution, and the systematic erosion of democratic principles are state policies, and which openly shelters UN-sanctioned terrorists, Pakistan lacks the standing to lecture others,” he asserted.
Mr. Tyagi emphasized that Pakistan has no authority to comment on human rights or democracy, given its own history of minority persecution, suppression of political dissent, and harboring internationally sanctioned terrorists.
“Instead of its unhealthy fixation on India, Pakistan should concentrate on delivering genuine governance and justice for its citizens. It is disheartening that this Council’s time continues to be wasted by a failed state that flourishes on instability and lives on international handouts. Its rhetoric is rife with hypocrisy, its actions reveal inhumanity, and its governance illustrates incompetence. India remains focused on democracy, progress, and the dignity of its citizens—values Pakistan would do well to adopt,” he concluded.
India’s recent comments came on the heels of a strong statement made on February 19 by India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish. During an Open Debate at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), Ambassador Harish remarked, “The Deputy PM and Foreign Minister of Pakistan have referred to an integral and inalienable part of India, the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, in his statements. I must reiterate that the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has been, is, and will forever remain an integral and inalienable part of India.”
