The Pakistan cricket team’s struggles are rooted in persistent issues, despite changes in leadership and players. Former Indian cricketer Yograj Singh, father of Yuvraj Singh, has offered to help revive the team within a year through his cricket academy experience. He criticized notable former players like Wasim Akram and Shoaib Akhtar for making disparaging remarks about the current squad, suggesting they should instead support the team through mentorship. Yograj emphasized that constructive criticism is crucial, especially as players’ confidence wavers. He believes that dedication and hands-on coaching are essential for uplifting the team’s performance.
The issues faced by the Pakistan cricket team are significantly ingrained. Despite multiple changes within the board, management, selection committee, and players, the team’s performance has not met the expectations of the cricketing community. Amid the ongoing discussions surrounding the decline of Pakistan cricket, former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh’s father, Yograj Singh, has stepped forward, offering to resolve the issues within the Pakistan team in just a year. Yograj, who operates a cricket academy, has trained numerous emerging players over the years and has publicly pledged to rejuvenate the Pakistan cricket landscape.
Yuvraj Singh’s father is a notable name in cricket, unafraid to express his opinions candidly. Upon witnessing legends of the game like Wasim Akram and Shoaib Akhtar mock the current Pakistan team, Yograj challenged them to leave their studios and conduct camps to assist the team instead.
“How can esteemed players like Wasim Akram make such appalling comments? And to think others around him are laughing. They should feel ashamed. Shoaib Akhtar, being such a prominent player—comparing Pakistan’s players to Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli? Wasim ji, you are there making money, right? Why not return to your country and run a camp? I want to see which of you legends can help Pakistan clinch a World Cup. If you can’t, then step down,” Yograj Singh remarked to SportsNext.
In extending his services to address the challenges in Pakistan cricket, Yograj pointed out that it’s easy to critique from the commentary box but challenging to take the field and implement changes.
“If I go there (to Pakistan), I will improve the team within a year. You’ll all remember my contributions. It’s a matter of passion. I dedicate 12 hours daily to training. You must invest your heart and soul for your countrymen and players,” he said.
“Merely making grand statements while seated in the commentary box achieves nothing,” he added.
Yograj criticized the illustrious figures in Pakistan cricket for their ‘harsh language’ towards the current squad, expressing that such remarks could further diminish the players’ morale.
“Many former Pakistan players sit aside and comment on the team—this doesn’t create a positive impression. Have you ever observed ex-Indian players using such harsh words against their own team? It has a significant impact. When your players are struggling with confidence and team spirit is waning, hearing your remarks will only add more pressure. You are all legends—they will heed your words,” Yograj stated.
“I am addressing everyone. These players rose to prominence because of Imran Khan. Is there anyone today who can mentor young talent like he did? Tell Wasim Akram ji, Waqar Younis ji, and Shoaib Akhtar ji—stop merely discussing talent. Pakistan is brimming with talent. You were once identified and nurtured, too. Someone helped you become exceptional cricketers.
“I do not appreciate anyone from any nation using such language towards their own players.”
