A 23-year-old, Affan, confessed at a police station in Kerala to murdering six family members, including his mother, grandmother, girlfriend, and 13-year-old brother. Investigations revealed he had brutally attacked them in three separate homes, although his mother survived and is in critical condition. Affan claimed financial troubles due to his father’s debt prompted the violent acts. He first attacked his mother and girlfriend, then killed his brother with a hammer, and later went on to kill his uncle and aunt. Despite his confession, he frequently changed his story, leaving motives unclear. Neighbors were shocked, having seen Affan as kind and caring.

A 23-year-old man entered a police station in a suburb of Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram on Monday, delivering a confession that left the authorities in shock. Affan revealed to the officers that he had murdered six individuals, including his mother, grandmother, girlfriend, and his 13-year-old brother.

Upon investigation, the police discovered that Affan had indeed violently assaulted six people; however, his mother, who is battling cancer, had survived the attack and has since been hospitalized in critical condition.

According to police officials, Affan visited three residences in Venjaramoodu to execute the heinous acts and has been frequently altering his statements. “Affan claims that his father, who operates a shop in Dubai, accumulated a debt of Rs 75 lakh, and he was facing financial difficulties as a result. He mentioned that no one was willing to assist him, though it remains unclear how his girlfriend fits into the narrative,” stated an official.

Authorities reported that Affan initially targeted his mother and girlfriend, who was present at his home, using a sharp weapon, followed by the brutal killing of his 13-year-old brother with a hammer. Neighbors expressed their disbelief at the murders, particularly the loss of his younger brother, describing the 23-year-old as kind-hearted and gentle.

A woman operating a tea shop nearby shared that Affan had a strong bond with his brother and usually took care of him. “I can’t comprehend how he did it. He was a nice boy; there’s nothing negative we can say about him. I even saw his younger brother yesterday afternoon. We were completely unaware of the tragedy until the police arrived,” she was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

After leaving his home, Affan reportedly went to his paternal uncle’s residence, where he allegedly killed both his uncle and aunt following a dispute, then proceeded to his grandmother’s house to commit her murder as well.

He ultimately walked into the Venjaramoodu police station and surrendered.

“His mother, who is suffering from cancer, was also attacked and remains in critical condition. Affan stated that an argument over his father’s debts sparked his decision that no one should survive. He claimed to have sought help from his mother, grandmother, and relatives, but no one was willing to assist him. He further confessed to stealing his mother’s necklace and expressed intentions of committing suicide after the murders,” an official disclosed.
